Dr. Almarzooqi is currently Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Gulf Properties, and is a founder in several healthcare start-ups. He is also an advisor to the Government of Dubai’s freezone healthcare initiatives.
From the periods of 2008-2017, Dr. Ihsan Al Marzooqi served as Director and Deputy Head at Mubadala Healthcare and served as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors for Healthpoint, Imperial College London Diabetes Centre, National Reference Laboratory, Tawam Molecular Imaging Centre and Capital Health Screening Centre. He also served as chair of the human capital committee at Mubadala Healthcare.
Whilst at Mubadala Healthcare, Dr. Almarzooqi primarily focused on asset management, strategy, financial performance, business development and operational management of Mubadala’ s Healthcare portfolio.
He project managed the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC) transforming it from a net loss of 20 M AED in 2008 to a business that currently generates revenues of 1 B AED with a 65% market share by value. He also managed the expansion of the business into 3 locations, and mandated the introduction of public clinical outcome reporting, He was also responsible for the introduction of the first researched-based venture fund with Imperial Innovation to promote innovations within the clinical setting. Dr. Almarzooqi served as ICLDC Managing Director from 2008-2017.
Dr. Almarzooqi also project managed Healthpoint, Mubadala Healthcare’s first hospital, from inception where he was responsible for all budgetary, planning, construction and operational tasks until patient ready. From 2012-2014, Dr. Almarzooqi also served as its first Chief Executive Officer, where we managed a team of 50 physicians across multiple specialties. He has helped lead the organization to capture market share in orthopedics (40%), spine surgery and bariatric surgery (25%), within 2 years, and managed the expansion of the hospital’s future clinical service lines.
Dr. Almarzooqi was previously a board member at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and chaired the Human Capital committee from inception until patient ready.
In addition, Dr. Almarzooqi previously sat on the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi committee’s which is primarily focused on health sector strategy and planning. He has lead several government initiatives focusing on new service lines, and consolidation of existing ones within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. He is also actively involved in the creation of white paper policy changes to encourage efficiency within the public sector.
He previously served as the Director of Business Development at the Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park and he spearheaded the development of the first dedicated life science facility in the UAE.
Dr. Al Marzooqi earned his Ph.D. from University College London, focusing on gene therapy applications. He also holds a Master of Science in Biochemical Engineering from University College London, a Bachelors of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from the University of Sheffield, and a Masters of Business Administration from London Business School.
Dr, Almarzooqi’s hobbies include rowing and fitness, where he became the first Emirati to represent the United Arab Emirates in single scull rowing during the Beijing Olympics Games qualifications in 2008.
